Console
Original Game Boy games can run on a Game Boy, or on a Game Boy Color, which colors them with palettes from its startup ROM. Color games always run on a Game Boy Color.
Switching restarts the game; its battery save carries over. Save states belong to the console they were made on.
Palette
On a real Game Boy Color you pick one by holding these buttons while it starts up. Automatic is what it picks for this game by itself.

Link cable unplugged
Two-player games talk over the link cable. Both players load the game, then link up one of these ways.
Over the internet
The codes connect your two browsers directly, with no server in between, so they include your network address: share them only with the person you're playing with. Some strict networks (offices, some mobile data) block direct connections. Each byte waits for a round trip, so link-heavy games run slower than side by side.
On this computer
Open this page in a second window, load a game in both, and press Link with another tab in each. Keep both windows visible side by side: browsers pause pages in background tabs, and a paused partner can't answer.
